Arcadia Ballroom

Street Address:
4432-4456 North Broadway
Chicago, IL

This ballroom was one of the few that hired all-black jazz bands to play for their predominantly white audiences. Young people liked the non-conventional sound of the all-black band, which made the Arcadia very popular in the 1920s. The opening of the Aragon Ballroom led to its decline as a dance hall, but it was still used as a sports arena for many years. Opened in 1910; burned down in the 1950s and was demolished.
