Fred and Barbara Rohrig lived here for at least 34 years, and operated a saloon and rooming house. There they raised their six children: Rosa, Anna, William, Charles, George, and Fredrick. Anna, my great grandmother, married John C. Voelpell.
Although this neighborhood was not affected by the 1871 Fire, nearly all the old structures are gone, being forced to make way for the Kennedy Expressway and the expanding rail yards.
