Hotel Sherman was a premier hotel that introduced jazz music to white Chicagoans. The company started in 1837 and the building was built after the fire in 1871. In 1904, the ownership changed, and the hotel became one of the most popular venues in the city. Business declined in the 1970s and the building was demolished in 1980.
