Built as a 22 story building in 1909, the Hotel LaSalle was once touted the safest and most modern hotel outside of New York City. The hotel catered to women as well as men, and was frequented by Chicago's social royalty. A fire ravaged the hotel in 1946 killing 61 people, including many children. The hotel was rebuilt, but never regained its past splendor. Building demolished in 1976.
