Michael Chernich was born in Austria about 1829. He married Mary Ritter who was born in Germany around 1845.
The family settled in Chicago by 1865. According to the 1866 city directory, Michael had a saloon at 728 S. Canal (now 1715 Canal). The same address was listed as his residence.
