This was the site of the American Indian Chicago Conference (AICC). From June 13-June 20, 1961, American Indians met to discuss their Indian identity in the wake of the relocation program implemented by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). The AICC was the largest Urban Indian meeting since World War II as well as an attempt to forge a sense of pan-tribal identity that met with mixed results. For more information on the AICC see:
