Thompson Residence

Thomas Coke Thompson was born in New York state in 1810. By 1844, he was living in Chicago on Monroe Street between Clark Street and LaSalle Street (now the 200 block of West Monroe Street) and employed as a ship's carpenter. In 1855, Mr. Thompson was boarding with James L. Williams, another ship's carpenter, at Williams's home on Market Street near Van Buren (now the 400 block of South Wacker Drive). In 1862, Thomas and his wife Drucilla, a dressmaker, lived at 374 Clark Street (now 1000 N. Clark Street). Mr. Thompson died in 1874 and is buried at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, along with his wife, who died in 1898.
