This is the site of the elm that the Treaty of Chicago (1833) was signed under. The Treaty was signed by those Pottawatomie, Ottawa, and Chippewa (Ojibwa) that were willing to cede away the rest of the lands in Illinois to the Americans, whose representatives included George Rogers Clark.
